Lights on or off?

Hi,
I'm currently treating my tank cause my platy developed white spot. I'm using Super ick from Aquarium Pharmaceuticals. The lady at my LFS advised not to do water changes until the treatment is over and to remove the carbon from filter. I've read somewhere that by leaving the lights the meds can become weaker or unefficient, but I'm not sure about this last thing.
I would like to hear some opinions. What do you say guys? Light on or off? and Has anybody had any experience using Super ICK? Did it work ok for you?

i always turn the light off for 24 hours when treating, i also turn it off for 24 hours when introducing new fish, since doing this i haven't had any ich at all

I have also heard of people covering thier tanks when treating ich. Light helps it survive!
