Simple question, do I leave the lights on or off during the fishless cycle?

It mainly depends on whether you have plants or not. If you do then you definitely need them on. If not, then you can leave them off but sometimes that can lead to even more brown algae.

Only if they are live plants??? I kept putting the lights on and off like i would do everyday if there were fish in it that was i cycled my new tank. but if you keep the lights off all through the cycle then you will have brown algae like rdd1952 said.

There's about a dozen live plants, so I'll just do the normal light cycle.
