Can anyone tell me if i could fit this into my tank and it would be suitable to grow a well planted tank?

Thanks all Matt B :)

Theres actually 4 bulbs in that link, which one were you planning on getting? ;)

I'm sure there is, but you'd be much better off trying to find a flourescent tube / balast that you can put in to the tank instead.

Fluorescent bulbs and ballasts seem to be very expensive as for my tank (36") If I wanted to grow plants I would need like 2wpg which means around 60 watts. which means i would have to buy 2 bulbs and 2 starters which would end up quite expensive. Also would the bulbs need to be specific for plant growth???

they are expesinve because they are fluorescent bulbs

this is what you need to grow aquatic plants.

a 60 watt regular bulb is equivalent to a 15 watt fluorescent...

now 60 watts is like 240 watts of regular lights! plus the fluorescent are availble in the right colors you need to simulate aquatic lighting at the depths plants are found.... much different then land plants

Hmmm ok so i could probably get 30w ballasts for like under 10 quid on ebay then buy the bulbs from my lfs and then just to buy my plants :)

And there is another advantage with fluorescents - longer life, less power consumption.

And I recommend you buy your plants online from a store such as Greenline (www.aquaticplants.eu.com). They work out a lot cheaper especially if you buy their collections.

36" 2 x 30 watt fixtures are $26.49/ea at Home Depot. Probably should be some sort of UK equivalent to that, no? You can find 6500k bulbs elsewhere as well (not from the LFS) and save.

Agreed on buying the plants online. Much cheaper.

Ok I think ive decided to just get one 30w bulb then just have low light plants like java moss, fern, swords etc. :D
