i have a three foot tank with a 30W flouro light. i got the tank and light second hand and i was wondering if the lights effectiveness with regards to plants deteriated with age? sho9udl i replace the the globe? what sort of globe should i have? i know nothing about this. is there different types? such as more white or more whatever else. anyway what would be the best thing to get? or is it fine until it blows? oh and im in australia if that affects brands and stuff.. would really appreciate some advice, thanks...

Airli,

Yes, compact fluorescent bulbs effectiveness declines with age. A good rule of thumb is to change the bulb 1x/year. As for the type of bulb, you can either purchase a dedicated plant bulb through one of the hundreds of online fish equipment supply stores or buy a standard GE plant bulb from your local hardware store.
