i usually turn on my lights about 8am and switch them off at about 11:30pm
i work 9 to 6 so i cant really turn the light off during the day.
would i need to use a timer to switch the lights sometime?
why do people turn their light off for a few hours in the middle of the day?
can anyone help me?

hi schizo
the only reason I can see for turning the lights off during the day is to reduce algea problems, if you don't have this problem then leave them on all day. Mine are on for 13+hours aday

In my heavily planted tank I have found that turning the lights out for about 3 hours during the middle of the day has cut back on any algae that may start to get away from me. That and I don't see having lights running when no one is home anyway. Mine go on at 9 am then off at 1:20 pm then back on at 4 pm untill 11:30 pm....... I have tried many different cycles and that works the best for me.

I've set up a timer on my light and airstone. That way I dont have to worry about it if I'm away or have to remember when to turn it off so as not to strss the fish too much!
