I have a 135 Gallon (72",18",24")

And I need to find the proper lights for my tank.

I am going to get either 1 or 2, not sure yet 36" triple or double T8 Light Strips.

Not sure how much lighting I need and what type, the plants I am going to put in need alot of light, and are hard to mantain the site says.

here is what I have found..

Just so many diffrent types of blubs not sure which ones to get really.

I herd you need 2watts for every 1 gallon, so that would be 270 watts, and alot of those lamps are like 20-30 watts.

get about a 300 watt i think, and u dont need a light unless u have plants, i love lights coz the make thta tank so nice looking, watch out for thhe alge bye...

2 watts per gallon is not really considered high light. I'd say it is moderate at best. I think the rule goes 1-2 is low, 2-3 for moderate and 3+ for high light plants. I use compact florescent lights. It is easier to get the wattage with minimal light strips with them. Also in a tank that big with lots of light you will probably need co2. I'd try your question in the how does your garden grow section. I'm sure you'll get a better response there.

Moe, You said you use compacts, what is the temp of your bulbs then (in K), all I can find is 3000 and I was told i need at least 8000. What brand do you use?
Thanks
Pat
