Lighting

6400 is a green spectrum used to grow plants. 10k and up is the natural lighting that makes it down to reefs as the water in the ocean swallows up the smaller color temps earlier (first 20ft or so). 10k and up is therefore more like a natural marine habitat. Corals pretty much require that white and blue light to grow and those colors will bring out the colors in your fish better. Reef tanks and fish look a little drab on anything less than 10k.

10,000K would be preferable. SH

What do you mean by preferable?

I just saw the low price and was interested lol

Marine tank lighting prefers a color temperature of 10000k, I think it's better for the corals, they prefer light closer to the blue spectrum, and 10000K mimicks their environment better, but don't quote me. I haven't read the nano fact sheet in a few weeks. 6400k, on the other hand, is very nice for growing plants, as you can see from the link photo. He's growing terrestrial plants and this light fixture, from what I can read, is designed more for a hortaculturalist (land plant people). Another problem is that it doesn't look particularly large and I didn't see a set of dimensions from the seller. It looks pretty small to me, a tray of plants has about a 12"x 24" footprint. 200W is too much for a tank that size even if you were setting up a very high-tech planted system (pressurized CO2, EI dosing, etc). The hood also looks very flimsy to me and wouldn't survive the rigors of being close to a source of water IMO.

Sorry, added my two cents worth.

llj :)
