Hello all!

Is there a "rule" stating how much total darkness is needed for a community tank? (platies and a cory) After I turn the aquarium light off at night, a night-light comes on illuminates the tank... kind of a twilight lighting. When the night-light goes off in the morning, there is natural light in the room, so the fish are never in total darkness. Should I remove the night-light or does it really not matter?

Thanks!

Hiya Cate,

I live in London where there's no such thing as total darkness  . And my fish seem to do OK. In some ways it might be better for the fish, as they're never being plunged from bright light into pitch blackness or vice versa, which would stress them out.
