I'm looking to set up a small tank (18"x12"x12") for quarantine, breeding, hospital. Want to put in a few plants like java fern and hornwort. What's a good way of providing lighting.

Ideally I would like it without a lid and use a lumiere type set up. Saw that arcadia do one but a bit pricey. Thinking about the arc pod- looks good value. Any other options/ recommendations people can think of?

Additional question- is it ok just to use an 11w fluorescent desk lamp?

Maplin (UK) were doing a magnifier desk lamp, on offer several times a year, and it uses a circular florry tube which is daylight ! I used that for months on a small breeding tank. (good for viewing fry too !) No doubt there are other lamps about without the magnifier for less money... but try to get a "daylight" lamp, if you want to keep plants.
