Hi all!

Have just bought a new tank and have affixed a simple lighting unit to it. The filter i use tends to produce a considerable amount of spray and i obviously don't want the lighting unit to be continually soaked less my poor fish get electrocuted, so have placed a clear plastic shield between the light and the water surface to protect it (it came with the tank).

my concern is that it may limit the supply of oxygen to the water in the tank - am I right to be worried?

thanks for any help!

Moisture and electricity are a dangerous combo, so I'd employ the barrier. I doubt your plastic shield completely seals the tank (probably has cutouts for heaters, filters, etc. Plus, judging by the spray you are describing, it sounds like your filter may be aerating the water somewhat.

The only time I've heard of someone "suffocating" their fish were equipment malfunctions involving CO2 injection systems.

Agreed. If you have enough water surface aggitation you wont need the air bubbles from your filter.

Plus. YOUr more likely to get electricuted by the light than your fish.
