Lighting Hood?

ok.. I'm going to buy a new lighting fixture for my 55 gal aquarium... but the fixture im wanting is just the actual fixture without the lil flip hoods... unfortunately the fixtures on my current lighting is connected to the hood.. so im going to need an all new hood.. can i get just a seperate hood with the lil flippy hoods and just add the new lighting fixtures to it?

Sorry to intrude, but you could put a light fixture with legs over a glass canopy right? What about a standard hood or would the light not spread out enough?

You know with a standard hood http/www.all-glass.com/products/hoods/index.html if you took the light fixture off and put a light with legs over it would it work or would not enough light get into the tank?

Ok because I might have to do that or get a glass versa top and do it that way, not sure. Either getting a versa top and two strip lights or a cp fixture, whichever is cheaper.

Ya if you have that type of fish, some fish don't jump though so you have to buy non-jumping fish.

Those types are attached to the actual light fixture. If you buy a different fixture then you'll have to replace the hood as well. Or not, if you want to keep an open top tank.

Ya the pics are what I'm talking about, but the type I have you can just remove the light bulb part in the middle so I was wondering if you could remove it and put the fixture with legs on it instead?

Ok so, you just cut the back rubber to fit the filter/heater... and its just a piece of glass that goes across the top... with a hood... and i get legs for the lights... how much would this glass thing cost.. i have to get two 24 inch things because there is a permanenent thing bisect the tank... so how much would it cost roughly? oh and btw... i have 3 bala sharks.. and im getting 4 angel fish soon and probably just some corydoras or maybe a peacock eel.... i hear balas can jump when frightened so would they be in trouble? but my tank is fairly planted and im getting more places to hide. expessially if i get the eel. do you think my balas will be fine or should i get a net or something to cover it

The hood would keep the balas from jumping out so no need for worry about that, it would cover the whole tank. As for cost depends where you get them I would say 35-45$.
