right now in my 30 gallon eclipse tank i have 2 18in bulbs one is a 10,000k daylight and the other is an acting 03 blue bulb. I want to make sure that i get good lighting to the tank so i can put leather coral and nicer looking stuff in the tank. Some one told me about a 50watt metal halide system. I have never heard of that. Also i have heard power compacts are good. What should i do?

go to aqua medic. They do a wide range of lighting and other equiptment.
if you dont find what you are looking for go to deltec.
There is also TUNZE they are a good make.

I would simply go with a 150-250 watt double ended halide pendant and still use your flourescents to supplement.

The double end type will create far less heat for your tank than the mogul type and are the most efficient in lumen output. You can usually find a good deal on a used one if you keep your eyes open.
