Just about to plant my tank but want new tubes for my tank but expensive, they are 2 pin pls bulbs what can I use to grow plants? they sell:

865 6500K Daylight White
840 4000K Cool White
835 3500K White
830 3000K Warm White
827 2700K Very Warm White

there only £1.50 each from a lighting store were as the aquarium shop wants £14 a pop! the tank tanks 2 of thease so maybe I could mix colours any ideas which two?

Anything much under 4500K or over 6700K is pretty useless for planted tanks. The lamps do not provide the wavelengths the plants need for photosynthesis.

So what about one of each then of these 2?

865 6500K Daylight White
840 4000K Cool White

so basically I have best of both because my tank takes 2 bulbs or should I stick with 2 6500k's?

Care to share the stores name please ? Just about to setup another tank ! :hyper:

I'd go with the 6500K lamps. 4000K is a bit to red end of the spectrum, few higher plants go below 4500K but a lot of algae do. A while ago, I posted the absorption spectra for the various chlorophyll molecules, oddly, I can't find it now.
