I have two BNT- one male and I believe from the size of the low section of the body, one female( no expert here). Here's the issue. At night, lights off, they get along just fine. They play and chase and generally act civil. But when the lights come on, LOOK OUT! The one I believe is a female becomes very testy and forces the other to the back of the tank and will dart at him if he comes back out. Turn the lights off and they are best friends. Any ideas other than leaving the lights off?

Thanks.

add more to the group, most tetras like being in groups. try to get 5 or 6 more, if the tanks large enough get even more.

Thanks for responding james. I honestly was thinking the same thing. My only concern was if this WILD behavior would be a problem with more and stress them out or would the larger numbers tame her. I think that adding is the cure. Hopefully they calm her down.

By adding more you disperse the aggression among the group, obviously not a hard and fast rule but if you have a shoal of 6 then aggression should one fifth what it was. Tetra do so much better in a group so definately consider adding more :)

Tried to pick some up yesterday at LFS and after succesfully picking out 4 of the five that I wanted, the clerk managed to get the tank in a frenzie and out from under the rock in the tank comes a dead rotten corpse neon ! For as long as it took to get the ones I wanted, I made her put them back after I saw that. She acted like I was crazy but I told her I didn't buy fish from a tank that had a dead one in it. She looked at me like I had two heads!! :/ Maybe it's time to go somewhere else

Anyway, thanks for the input. I'm trying to add some as we speak.
