do fish like the light on in the tank all the time? do they need it turned off to rest their eyes ever? mine seem to get scared when i turn it off so ive just been leaving it on....

fish, like us, need a light and dark period.
if you don't have live plants you can have the lights on only when you want to watch the fish, during the day the natural light in the room will be ok for them.
If you have live plants 10-14hrs a day is the norm, but plants also need a dark period.
to sum up
don't leave the lights on 24/7

Be careful tho...10-14 hours light for a fully planted tank is right...But just having 1 or 2 plants is not the same thing!

I was about to start a thread about this when I saw this one. I have a full spectrum light that has a small light sensitive umm i think it's incandescent light. It only turns on when I cut off the main light. Can this be left on all the time, the fish don't seem to mind, but They can't talk so I don't really know. You can't even tell that it's on during the day but at night it gives a fairly good view of the fish. I have been putting paper towels over the light to dim it some but i really like how it looks so i was wondering if I could leave it on.
