Hi. I am a third year Bsc student studying Equine Sports Science (Equestrian Psychology. I have a dissertation idea but have hit a snag. I cant go into detail as if it works it has very large implications and will lead to my Phd. I am after light more specifically around the 500-520 nm mark. You dont seem to be able to buy an off the shelf bulb but does ayone know where I could get filters from. The wattage has to be low.

Bump. This may sound a bit airy fairy but I have real scientific evidence that relates to that spectrum and I'm running out of time. Any help is really needed

Have you tried looking at some scientific supply companies? I don't think that anyone on a fish forum is going to be looking for things that dim lights. If anything, fishkeepers are looking for brighter lights so their plants grow better.

It has to be cheap as it is self funded. I was hoping someone had come across somthing to aid night time viewing.

depends on intensity needed and the accuracy of the wavelength (if you ONLY require that wavelength then none of the following will be of much use but if you after something that covers those wavelengths then hope this helps) have you thought L.E.D's you can pick up just for example This from maplins i think that you may well be better off looking at led's than trying to find filters. oh yeah here is another 1 with the dominant wavelength around 520 nm here without knowing what it is you are looking to use it for its near imposible to advise any better, (i do however understand you being vague) hope this is of "some" help at least

That is perfect, thank you. I never thought of led's. That is perfect, thank you. I never thought of led's. cool im glad i could help, i only thought of led's due to your low power requirements, and the fact that they are also readily cheaply available, yes your right they do have a narrow wavelength but bear in mind that thet isnt the ONLY wavelengths you will be getting hence my little disclaimer saying about the accuracy filters can work very well but there are so many variables whilst using them and it can be rather expensive too.... that and the trying to find them part lol, anyway hope to hear from you if it works out.... oh yeah there (as you probably know) are plenty of other better places for sourcing led's and other electronic/project parts but it was only a suggestion as i know they are all over the place and dont know what you have near you

I now have selection of led's and my house looks like something from the twilight zone as I try them all out to find the ones that best suit my requirements. Now just 28 days of early morning and late nights, followed by a week in the labs to analyse it all, yeah.
