Do you guys keep the light on in the tank while u are sleeping? or do u alwasy keep the light on 24/7

Is it bad for the fish to shut it off?

It's bad for the fish to leave it on all the time. I wouldn't leave it on more than 8 hours a day or so.

Not good for the fish to have light on all the time, buy a timer and plug light into it and have it on for between 8 and 12 hrs a day thats plenty for the fish. Good thiung about timer it comes on and off same time every day. :good:
Only cost around £3 from tescos.

all u have to think about is it natural to ahve 24 hour light except for in the poles for a limited period of the year.

Since fish can't close their eyes, they need darkness in order to fall asleep. It's why nocturnal fish generally hide in caves during the daytime and the like. I've heard if you never turn off the lights your fish eventually die of sleep deprivation, but I'm unsure if I've heard a case of this myself.

Do what i do if timers arent your thing, there biological clock is yours  I usually turn it off at 11 latest, and turn it on when i wake up, so its like either at 8 am, or 4pm.

In the wild they have night and day, shouldnt be different at home, i kept my light on 24/7 for about a month my fish did fine, i started to turn it off, and saw them sleeping, and thought this is way cooler, and not to mentiion, i had learned abit more about fish. They also acted alot mroe lively, like fish should.

In the end, if the fish somehow manage, it helps your lights last longer.

Cheers.
