Hello all -
I'm a newbie to planted tanks and would like to change that.
I'd like to dive into planted tanks but need some lighting advice.
As you can see, I have a standard 29 gallon glass tank with a light fixture that accomodates only one 24" tube.
How should I go about adding more lighting? I'd like to buy two tubes for now - (1
) daylight tube (5000K) and one 50/50 actinic tube. I should get 40 watts from this setup which isn't a bad watts per gallon for low-light plants.
Should I change my hood - I have no idea on how to go about this.
What is the difference between a ballast and a starter, between an electronic ballast and an electrmagnetic ballast. I've read that with an electronic ballast, the tubes light instantly as opposed to having to wait a couple of seconds.
Also, I've notices that CF bulbs and metal hallides are super expensive and perhaps not the best lighting choice.
Thanks for any help you can give a lighting newbie!
