hi, does anyone know what the things that hold the light tubes to the hood are called on a jewel rekord 120. (probaby the same on most old jewel tanks) they are the white bits and when you take the bulb out you have to unscrew them? i would like to know as i am ging to install another light but will have to get the white things. also what bulbs T8 or T5? i know its the older of the 2 bulbs but i cant remember which. its the fatter bulb (i think). lastly anyone know where to get the white bits that the bulb screws into. i thinks that is all i will need apart from the bulb and 2 screws to put through the hood. The white things that you slip over the tube then screw on to the holder to make a watertight seal are called 'tube holders' by Juwel, although sellers seem to be calling them 'end caps'. You should be able to get them from any shop selling Juwel equipment. You can also get them on ebay or other on line shops (just google juwel end caps). The wider tubes are T8, the narrower ones are T5. Make sure you get the right end caps - there are two sizes for the two tube sizes

there are also other things i believe? anyone know about the bracket that holds the light and the end caps to the hood? i have looked on the jewel website and all they have are spare bulbs and end caps for the rekord 120 (monolux 100) i dont even know how to get all the stuff for the diy light!

also i have seen 1.5 ich holders so you can upgrade lights? does that mean to the newer slimmer light? because that might be easier than putting a second light tube in. but on a tube there are the 2 metal prongs at each end and the holes where they fit into (i was told they were called ballast?) aparently if i got a 45w tube they would not be able to cope as they are designed to be with a 30w tube. so how do i change them, what is their proper name and where can i get them from. all i want is more light!!!! thanks guys and girls.

Have a look here you should find everything there on that page, the clips are there to attach the tube to the hood, as i see it then all you need is a ballast to run the new tube, which should have the water proof caps on the end of the wires for you, the tubes your after will be T8.

cheers binksy. do you know where i can get the ballast things from m8? great help tho, cheers again. for a T8 tube i take it i will need the 1inch clips? they should attach everything shouldnt they?

Yes its the 1 inch clips for the T8. Iwould try looking on ebay for the light ballast, make sure you get the right wattage for the lamp you will be using.
