Hey ok so i got a full 20 gallon tank setup from a friend which came with a lighting fixture. The bulb in it is currently 10 watts which i think is way to low for a 20g but the fixture it self on the back says, 19 Watts 120 Volt 60 hz.

The question is, Can i buy a 20 watt light bulb and put it in that fixture? Or will the bulb not work?

Thanks allot!

Might be just on the limit for the control gear.... but theres only one way to find out ! It will either work or not - if the lamp does not light, or looks like its blinking after a few minutes, then the gear isnt upto the job... cheap enough to replace though.

Quite often they have a low wattage globe so it doesn't melt the hood or casing. A 20w shouldn't be a problem tho. Just monitor it and see what happens. Worse comes to worse you melt the hood. Then you take it back and say it was dodgy :)

If we are talking about a fluorescent lamp, a 20W lamp will be twice as long as the 10W, so unless it has loose lead end caps, it physically won't fit.
