I use full RO water in my new tank but am already starting to get horrible green growth on my LR, the tank is quite close to a window so I'm thinking the amount of daylight it gets it causing this. I will be adding a background to to the tank and trying to limit the amount of light it gets but can anyone identify what this stuff is exactly and what would be the best way to remove it and keep it under control besides actually taking it off the rock.
Thanks!

Looks like hair algae to me I got an emerald crab soon sorted it out :)

Definitely hair algae. Have you tested the TDS of your RO water? And what/how often are you feeding?

I Have had a hair algae problem with my tank sicne i started it. Initially it was a hair and cyano problem when my RO unit wasn't doing it's job to the full.

Now with a TDS of 0 the cyano is gone compeltely but the hair algae remains. My phosphates are very low as wall and I use Rowaphos...

My tank is near a window but the back is sealed off to the light. I'm planning on doing both of the sides shortly to see if this helps.

I have an emerald crab which lives on the left of the tank and that rock is pretty much clear of the algae...i'm looking at a sea hare in the next week or so but the last one i had died (no idea why) and my tang died at the same time :(.

Let me know if you resolve the problem.

What sized tank is it?
Sometimes once the stats are bang on what they should be, manually removing a lot of it helps and you might not see it again

When I had my 180L Rio, I suffered a lot with hair algae. Hermit crabs did take a fair bit of it away, but it always lingered. I found that putting some water from the tank in a bucket and using a cheap new toothbrush, gently scrub the stuff off the rocks. Wear gloves if you do this, as you will more than likely have bristleworms in the rocks.

If you have a sump, you could always try putting cheatomorpha in it with a light source to act as a refugium. This will compete with the hair algae for nutrients. Touch wood, I haven't had any hair algae issues with my new nano.
