i'm currently in the process of planning and setting up a large tank, about 6ft. the tank will be for african cichlids, so i'm going to have many large rocks and slabs of slate. does anyone know a high street company where the plastic grid light defuser used on lowered/suspended ceilings can be purchased in the u.k? its seems a good idea for spreading weight on the inside bottom of a tank that will have large rocks, also to protect the base glass from any rocks that happen to dislodge or fall. i've only tried B+Q so far without any luck.
if there are any alternatives please feel free to suggest.
thanks,
Andrew.

Egg crate is commonly available from fish shops, though I found when I looked for some, it tended to be shops that were marine oriented.

Not sure if its exactly what your looking for, but you can by egg crate type material from hobby shops such as Haskins, its used in needle work.
Hope this helps.

cheers for those suggestions, i've been looking for it on the net from suspended ceiling companies. i have found one or two places on ebay actually selling it through aquarium/marine shops but when you include delivery it works out really expensive when wanting 6 or 7 feet's worth. a 2x2ft piece is £9.00 plus £5.00 delivery so you are talking 40 to 50 quid. i suppose i'll have to find a local ceiling/lighting company.

i have a 2ft sq sheet u can have for nothing but you'd have to come and get it ya see i dont have any way of posting sumthing that size

no worries mate, thanks for the sentiment, but driving from cardiff s.wales would be excessive  (but i'd love to see your tank set-ups all the same)
i've found a ceiling company that sells 4ftx2ft pieces for 9 quid a throw, so if i cannot find somewhere locally, i'll probably go with them. :good:
