Yeah I have bulbs that work intermittenly cause stuff splashes and gets in the sockets. i have recently completely abandoned incandescents though. Last year around this time I jacked a CCFL tube (cold cathode flourescent) from and old laptop monitor I had laying around (plus the inverter board). I mounted it in my tank hood and it has outlasted like a years worth of regular bulbs, and its still shining brightly. I got a CCFL tube from and old scanner Im gonna rig up in it to. If you want I can post instructions, its easier than you would think. But it does require a few components, know how to solder, and a few tools like a drill and such. I just drilled holes in my lid and epoxied the tube in there and ran wires. Its all very simple but you know the CCFL tubes for things like monitors and scanners have to last years so it was worth it. Plus they use way less energy. My tube I have hooked up now uses like 12V and 5V at like 500mA at the most. All in all it uses no more than 10 watts and puts out enough light to equal 2 15 watt incandescents. Plus they put out a better spectrum if you got live plants.
