Perhaps, but I really don't think that's likely to be a problem.

If you are worried about getting oxygen into the water, you must have some space where air can get in. How about around the filter, heater, etc.? It wouldn't have to be very big for enough air to circulate on top of the water.

Most lids are made specific dimensions so they usually fit perfectly unless its a custom built tank. But if you are making your own lid at home it can be too tight. I cut a cover out of plexiglass and made a slight mistake on the dimensions and ended up with a lid that wasn't fitting.
