I just recently set up a 100 gallon tank, have been very patient doing the fishless cycling and am putting together a stocking plan. I saw that liveaquaria.com has licorice gourami (Parosphromenus deissneri). They are quite stunning and I was wondering if anyone has ever kept any before? I have never seen them at my LFS and am curious as to their difficulty. I have also been doing some research on this particular fish and I'm coming up with conflicting information. :S

Thanks in advance for any information! :D

Sensitive to water conditions, hence a newly cycled tank would probably not be ideal. They are very easily bullied, and frequently just fade away and die in communities. Tank mates must be very docile.

There are many types of licorice gouramis. I bought a pair but have not been able to identify them 100% yet. I keep mine in a cycled 14.5 gallon along with a pair of spike tail gouramis, pair of betta smaragdinas and 6 harlequin rasboras. The filter it set to low so there is not a lot of movemement in the water.

I'm planning on gettng a pair of the Parosphromenus deissneri in the near future too as I think they are one of the most stunning looking fish.

I wouldn't however keep them in such a big tank or a tank that is newly cycled. They are shy fish and IMO do better in smaller tanks with a lot of live plants and calm tankmates. None of the tankmates I keep mine with are much bigger than them.

Good luck
