Named after El Salvador where they occur. But theye also occur in Guatemala, Honduras, Panama and Nicaragua. It's not sure that outside El Salvador, that they've been introduced in the other countries or that they also originate from those countries.

Been seeing those listed on Dan’s fish site for sale… are you breeding these???

Yes, I'm keeping and breeding these for years already.
I had them for years, and I miss them. If I were to get one molly, that would be it.
This is one of my favorite wild molly species as well. Besides this molly species, I've also kept or even still keep wild forms like Poecilia gilli (almost similar but different background), Poecilia mexicana, Poecilia chica, Poecilia orri, Poecilia caucana, Poecilia vandepolli, Poecilia formosa, Poecilia cuneata, Poecilia velifera, Poecilia latipinna and Poecilia sphenops. I had to decrease the number of molly species in order to create space for other wild livebearer species. Of course, there are way more wild molly species than the ones I've mentioned. But the house ain't getting bigger to expand the number of tanks overhere.
