Lfs Snails.

hi at my lfs their tanks are overrun with snails. they are small and black (pond snails?) i might get a loach or 2 when i move my shrimp out of the tank, if i ask the lfs to give me some snails, free of course, would they be ok to give to the loaches?

They'd eat them, but they're not really necessary for loaches, they'll eat just about anything. Though they are easy to breed - set up a tank and feed them whatever and you'll have a reliable source of treats for your loaches. if you crunch their shells against the glass, other fish will pick them clean, too.
