My LFS had a 1/2 off sale yesterday. I got some stock. The fellow showing me some things he though might interest me said they had some new female bettas.

I had seen them, and they looked a little large and dark. He said they had ordered male "round tail" fighting bettas. I asked if that was CT or HM or maybe plakat, and he didn't really know. But the thing is he said these were suppose to be male round tails, but they have egg laying parts.

I ended up taking one. She is a good sized girl, bigger than any of my other females, even Roxy, the chunk.

What is she?

So? What'a ya think?

i'm not the best at ID'ing females, but to me she looks like a female plakat!

That's what I thought, too, newfishies, especially from her size and the "round tail fighting fish" description.

The way the colors show on her tail reminds me of Synirr's babies.

She was two dollars.

I think if I watch they may get some of the males that were promised but not delivered.

I'd have to say it's a female Veil.

A plakat (whether female or male) generally has a longer, more pointy (on the end by the tail) anal fin.

I could be wrong..but I don't think I am lol....but I will leave myself open to being wrong .

She's still cute though..and a steal @ only $2.

Well that would be ok too Thanks, but now we need some more opinions. All are welcome. I may have to do a poll.

I will take a shot at a better snap of the anal fin tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure it's the long-finned females who usually have the more pointy anal fin, since the long-finned genes working on the females is what adds that extra bit of length to the fin. The anal fins on my females look exactly like the one on this lady, which along with the "round tail" description leads me to believe she's plakat

If the supplier not only got the gender wrong but also the species description wrong--oh well.

No one at the lfs is into bettas that I've found. But usually they make an effort to have good quality stock and to care for them.

The helper kept saying they were suppose to be the ones really used for the fighters calling them round tails. The only way they could tell the full grown one's gender was by the ovipositor. All that led me to think she might be a plakat.

BTW, she has a white dot on either side of her face just behind the gill???

Well it's ok. I don't have a VT female. She's a nice girl. The lfs had better check their suppliers

That's not a mistake; that's an outright lie by their supplier.

How can you be so sure she's VT? She looks exactly like my girls in both body and finnage, and they are 100% plakat. I mean, I'm not saying she's definitely plakat or anything, I don't know, it's just so hard to tell female tail types sometimes that I'm not understanding how you can say that with such certainty?
