Ok... got Greg's Stuff in the mail today!
Im just now mixing up 500ml of each KNO3 and KH2PO4.
I used the calculator and figured 154 grams of KNO3 to hit 1ppm for my 500ml solution, and 135 grams of KH2PO4 to hit 1ppm for my 500ml solution.

I believe this is what im supposed to do according to Zigs pinned article...

Interesting enough, the tool tells me i cant dissolve 135 grams into 500ml...
hmmm....

Whats up and how do YOU do it?

I was just looking at houndour's posting, and she only did KH2PO4 for .1ppm ...not 1ppm.
Am i messing up and have a SUPER solution here? heh
...my brain seems to be sliding outta my ear..

Soooo.. how much SHOULD i add of each for my 50 us gallon tank?

ok.. let me reply to myself here for a min..

Looking closer, i believe houndour is correct....

KH2PO4
trying to make 500ml of 1ppm aint gonna dissolve
So i remixed to hit .2ppm... (27gm per 500ml) so now dosing 5ml should give me 1ppm.

Also...anyone else have a hard time getting the KNO3 to dissolve too?
Maybe its due to the volume of water my tank is... 50 us gallons.

Seems to me, it should also be cut back.... maybe something like 77 grams for 500ml.... then youd end up with a .5ppm per ml...
so dosing 2 ml would be 1ppm.

These numbers make sense?
If so, then i think ive got it... heh

I had to use 1000ml of water to make mine dissolve. 280 grams i believe. Which is supposed to dissolve ok in 500mls of water. I shook it forever. when i doubled the water, the latst bit finally dissolved.

My solution became 2 mls = 1ppm.

Another curious question....
If you dose, and then 2 days later all is back down to 0, so you dose again... n so on.. n so on....

Then why would you have to do a 50% water change every week?
I mean, its not like KNO3 and KH2PO4 are building up....
Otherwise ya wouldnt have to add more every other day

Might be to late now Walt but i make it that 122 grams of KNO3 dissolved in 500ml water wil give you 0.50ppm for a 50 gallon tank.

The PO4 figures are correct.

The idea of the water change is that you dont have to test any longer, you dont have to rely on tests to estimate how much you should dose each week and by doing the water change on a weekly basis you eliminate the possibility that you have any one nutrient building up to excess.

You can go longer without water changes if you so wish but you may need to test more often.

Dang.. wonder what im doing wrong...
I get 77g for .5ppm for a 50 gallon tank....

At 122g i get .79ppm for a 50 gallon tank...
