Here's our dilema.

We have a 30g tank and stand. With it just sitting there the tank wasn't level, so level that the water would be at the top of the tank in the front, and 1.25" from the top in the back.

We went out a bought corner braces and braced the tank stand to the wall, and adding peices of cardboard/wood underneath the stand to level it and keep it from tipping forward. In turn the stand is about 1" from the wall and the tank is about 2.5" from the wall. With a standard whisper filter it pushes the tank to less than 1/8" from the edge of the stand.

I was thinking of either a internal filter or an external filter. My budget is no more than $100.

Maintaining it is not a problem.
