Lemon tetra fries

If with live bearers you completely cover the surface of the tank with something like Cabomba the adult fish will swim under that and the fry will be completely protected, live bearers are on group of fish I would never remove the fry from the adults
same but with water lettuce

3 weeks ago after I removed all adult fish from the tank, it quickly infested with all bunch of bugs and mosquitos.
Yep, all 26 lemon tetras fries were dead :( So I moved all adults back.

Luckily, I managed to breed them again and got 2 fries in the tank.

Maybe put a fly screen over top of the tank after the adults are removed to stop the bugs getting in.
What about making glass lid? Will this make tank extremely hot?

Also, my tetras tend to swim in the one spot all the time, is this their normal behavior?

Unless the glass lid completely seals the top of the tank, insects will still get in and eat the babies. You can put filter floss in corners or gaps to stop the bugs getting in but flyscreen works too. A coverglass can increase the temperature a few degrees but probably won't make much difference where you are.

The tetras are just cruising in the current and this is fine. There is water moving there and fish naturally swim into currents. Nothing to worry about.

How does shoaling behavior work exactly? I added 2 mollies and 1 skirt tetra to the tank and lemon tetras behavior seems to changed a lot. They don’t swim in groups anymore, they go everywhere and some of them follow mollies and skirt tetra.

lol is the skirt tetra fine with the lemons? if it is fine then it wont be lonely i guess

basically ( i think) the tetras are following both of them, but since mollies dont shoal, they seem to be following 2 crowds
how are the fry?

Under normal relaxed conditions, the fish swim around in groups and everyone watches out for predators. Each fish will have a little territory and some personal space around it. If a predator is spotted, the fish will swim closer together to form a larger mass that will be less likely to be attacked.

If there are insufficient numbers of fish in the group, they might group up with other species, safety in numbers.

Sometimes smaller fish will hang out around bigger fish because the big fish can scare away the predators, or the bigger fish become the target because they are bigger and easier to see (this is more from birds attacking from above).

If the tetras are hanging out with the mollies, there probably isn't enough tetras in the group and they are hanging out with the mollies for safety and numbers.

On a side note, the mollies do best in hard water with lots of minerals and the tetras do better in soft water without too many minerals.

how are the fry?
I just let the adults eat them, I don’t have any room for more fish sadly :(

I have another 20 gal on a shelf and trying to choose between between saltwater and yet another Iwagumi aquascape.
Really wanna keep mollies in saltwater (like before) but still want to do another planted tank…
