well for crabs i would go to "Ocean Commotion". believe it or not, my newts from P@H and frogs from a little LFS in Beaumont Leys. just, please, avoid A5 Aquatics for all stock.

myself and several friends have had stock from there over the last 12 months. the stock is as ropey as any i have seen, with many deaths, and the surviving stock being far from "good" even then. they do some good deals on equipment though.

seen this one had some good reviews online, anybody used it???

Scales and Tails

not visited this one, nor know anyone who has. looks interesting though.

I would agree with the a5 comment, the amano shrimp i got there are fine but ropey is a good description for the fish.

Ullesthorpe garden centre often have some crabs in, I think they had 2 different species last time i went in.

Never tried Ullesthorpe before, has been on my to-do list for a while though!! What's it like??

Reall y wish someone had been to this reptile shop!!!

Ullesthorpe has it moments-but i'd only get something from there if they really didnt have it anywhere else. I had a arguement before xmas with the staff there. But i havent had any problems with A5 myself.

Went Scales and Tails today, quality little shop! Had my 3 y/o daughter with me s could not really get all the info that I needed but will defo be returning in the next couple of weeks to get more info on potential amphibian purchases!!

Anyone here know what the African Toad is like to keep????

a5 aquatics has been fine for us. we brought a tank and all our fish so far and only have 4 tetras died due to fault on jewel tank, filter stuck to side and poor tetras got stuck and died, staff helpful. but woodlands nursery was bad last time i went.

going to pop there tomorrow, been a5 today and it was ok, fish jumped out on floor but no poorly fish, loads staff.

probably a bit late to post on here but i too have been round the block with leicestershires fish stores.

I have never been to scales and tales but i am interested in them now.

A5 aquatics have nice deals on tanks but the fish stocking id#s really poor i bought from them once and lets just say for MANY reasons i wont ever again.

I too am undecided about Ullesthorpe garden centre though, they can have some really unusual stock but at the same time certain fish are badly looked after. I too will only buy from them if i had to and the fish wasnt anywhere else.

By far my favourite fish store is Maidenhead Aquatics. For many reasons.
They have great variety of stock and what is there is very well looked after, as well as not being put in the wrong tank with the wrong companions.
Each shop assistant i have talked to has thoroughly known what they were talking about and have been very helpful and kind about it. And they wont try the sell as much as we can approach and they wont sell you a bunch of fish which wouldnt work just because you asked for them.
Alot of people complain about the prices at the stores, i agree they are a little pricey but tbh what you get is really great quality.

Here is a link to there website and the store section on it so you can find the closest near you:

The closest shop to me is Stapleton, and they are utterly fabulous and imo one of the best stores Maidenhead Aquatics have.

I hope this helps you x x x
