I have some plecos that are very adverse to coming out when any lighting is present. The most notorious of these is my L075 which simply sits in the dark about 99% of the time. He is quite healthy but simply does not enjoy the light. I know that this plec and all of my others are extremely active at night though, because whenever I turn on the lights in a totally dark room I always see them scurry into a cave!!!

I have heard a lot about LED lighting being used as 'moon lighting' or such. I am curious if I could use this type of lighting to see the fish, while they would not become scared and hide. If these will give me that affect, I am also wondering if different colors would be better than others. Any scientific explanation of why these would work get you bonus points :)

Most people who go into this use blue LEDs. As long as it is not overdone, I doubt it causes any harm. We discussed a DIY LED solution a short while ago in this thread.

leds are to much work.
got to an auto store and purchace a undercar waterproof neon. grab a 12volt adaptor and there you go easy.

That is pretty sweet cossack! LED's may be a little bit of work, but I imagine they would be a heck of a lot cheaper.. especially since I am going to be running them across a 6 foot tank. It looks like I would have to buy 2 of these auto lights if I wanted to do that..
