Hey!

As I´m new to this forum I might just introduce myself.

I am a teenager from Sweden. I have always liked animals, however aquariums is what I like the most! My first tank was a small one my mother bought when I was a little boy, and that´s where my interest started. Now I have had my own tanks (mostly small, <15 gallons (54L)). This winter I bought a 45gallon (~170L) tank, and my interest for plants started to grow (

). I bought the tank used and with a bad 30W T8 lighting. Now when it has broke, I want to upgrade to the lights so I can have more plants and with more sucess!

That´s where I am now. I have been searching and I want to try LED lights. In the tank I will use fertalizers (PMDD), and mayeb, MAYBE, DYI CO2.

The easiest solution I have found is to use a couple of these http://viewitem.eim.ebay.se/PAR38-Dimmable-LED--Flood-Ceiling-Down-SPOT-CREE-light-bulb-lamp-12x2-15x2-18x2W/360628811514/item and just hang them over the tank. How many do you think I will need? The tank is ~95x45x40cm (lengthxheightxdepth). 2 or 3 maybe?

I have a plan of a more advanced solution (still using these light bulbs) that will be more expensive, but also more fun to build!

The light bulbs will be controlled (maybe with dimmer), and there will also be night lights.

Anyone got an idea?

Thanks! :)

Do you guys think this light bulb will even be good for plants?

You will definitely want the 18x2w, cool white 5700k-6500k, 120 degree version and more than two of them. At minimum, I'd suggest 3. With 2 of these fixtures you'd only be able to have low-light and mid-light level plants in your tank, depending on the tank's depth. I have an LED system that puts out 2000 lumens and that's just enough for low light level plants. I'd need to get another identical unit to be able to grow a wider variety of plants.
