Well, I'm currently doing research to set up a mantis nano tank. In about four weeks, I will be going away for six weeks. I was wondering if I could leave a LRO (live rock only) tank behind when I go, so I can save some time when I get back and have a decently-established tank for my shrimp. There would be no water changes possible during this time. I might be able to get it set up for two or so weeks before I leave, meaning that I will be there to do water changes during the initial cycle.

EDIT:I could have someone top off the tank, but I don't think I should have them/they would be willing to mix salt water for it.

Thanks,
~Katana~

Very bad idea.

6 weeks with no top ups would leave you with some rock in a VERY salty puddle.

Well, there will be a house sitter at my house. I know that she could pour water in for me to top it off, but I wouldn't trust her doing water changes. I've also seen some extremely easy DIY auto top offs that work mechanically, not with floatswitches, so hopefully between the two of those, I could keep water in the tank. :p I shoulda mentioned that in the original post, sorry.

But in all honesty I hadn't thought of that, so thanks :p

for a mantis nano, topoff and light timers should be all you need to keep things going :)
