As some of you may know i have a 125litre tank, been set up for around a year and a half now.

although my leathers sulk for most of their life, can this be stopped?

my phosphate is: 0
nitrate is: 10ppm and lowering by the day

i skim 24/7, do not add any additives to the tank, like coral feed etc.

lighting is 3xt8 18w bulbs, with reflectors, mixed white and actinic.

thanks

Hi, are you running carbon? Mine was sulking a little while ago so I changed carbon and it seemed to have a new lease of life. Im not sure if your lighting would be a problem though, T8's arent widely used in marine.

How are the other corals?

I agree with JH but I would consider thinking about your lighting as t8's aren't really adequate for coral. A good start is T5's HO as they will support the majority of coral. Certainly softies and some lps.

Agree with Woody here but you could try uping the flow on them. Toadstools love flow!! Mine have a power head directly on them and seem to love it!! They also sulk if you move them so move it into heavy flow and move it high aswell to maximise light. then dont touch it for at least 2 weeks, and see what happens!
They sulk for ages sometimes. Has it ever opened?

I personally would worry if it is sulking for more than 7 days. As Lewis said if it is having trouble shedding high flow will help. I also read that you can give it a little massage to help, I did this once and it did seem to have a positive effect.

Hi Adam

IMO the t8s are fine for a tootstool, but flow, now that's the important thing, they love as much as they can can get

ps just thought, you havent got any lps, maybe Euphylias, in there have you, close by?

Hi guys, thanks for the replies! :)

i shall move the toadstoool into a higher flow then, tbh, i feel that the lighting is fine, i have button and yellow polyps thriving in the tank, just the leathers that im concerned about.

seffie, there are no lps's in the tank :)

i am running carbon atm, i added it 2 weeks ago, but tbh am a bit confused about how long to leave it in for, or whether not to use it at all, there are so many conflicting reports!

how about the finger leather, its sulking too, i may have to move it to an area with more flow too.

i am aware about the lighting, but firstly, wanted to see if a really nice t8 reef could be achieved, which i feel i am on the way too, all i want to add now is mushrooms, rics, and then possibly try zoa's and xenia

thanks for all your help

Adam

Hey mate, let us know how they get on with more flow.

I change my carbon every 4-6 weeks and IMO all reefs should run with it. The positives out scale the negatives hugely. It takes a lot more bad out of the water than stripping the water of any goodness :good:

Cheers

ok, cool, thanks for your help :)

One of the reasons for running carbon in your tank would be that you have several different types of corals, so for example, euphyllias and toadstools, lps and softies. if I only had softies in my tank I would not run carbon, it may well be the problem if they were fine before :good:
