I am new to marine reef keeping so know very little at the moment.

I have a leather soft coral which was looking fantastic up until a week or so ago. It seemed to be growing and was covered in small white polyps. I think it is similar to a lobophyton with finger like branches. It now seems to have changed from a pink to a blue grey colour and does not seem to have many polyps.

I would put some photos on but I am not sure how to do this.

I have tested the water tonight and the results are ph 8.0, nitrite 0, nitrate 25, amonia 0 and 1.025. The coral is on the bottom of the tank on some live rock.

I would welcome any views on what the problem could be or whats the best thing to do with it.

Thanks.

Leathers often with draw and shed their outer skins..A water change to lower your nitrates may help it to re open quicker....check it's base as small nudibranch can attack here ..look like small snowflakes!

Yeah leathers can sometimes sulk for awhile while they shed. Nitrates are a little high which wont help so a good water change wouldn't hurt.

I always think of leathers like naughty little school boys, they sulk for a week then act like nothing has happened  - really, don't worry, everything will be fine :good:
