The last two times I cleaned the canister and recoonected it there was a leak coming from the filter head. It appears as though water is leaking from somewhere and filling the filter top, then running down the side where the cord comes out.

As a precaution (and to try and prevent replacing the whole unit) I swapped out the O-rings and the sealing gasket, but the same thing happened again. I called around to a few local aquarium shops (I live in Albany, NY) and they had no idea how to attack it or could suggest someone who could attempt to service it.

I'm somewhat handy but a novice with these types of things, so I'm just looking for some idea(s) as to what I might be missing, and at this point I'm willing to try almost anything.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

its the sealing ring i had the same probs soak your o ring in water put it in your hands and give it a good rub between your hands and then it will have a bit of flex to sit in there properly

cheers dane

Use some petroleum jelly on all the rubber gaskets & O rings when assembling. Also, wipe all the platic edges where the gaskets contact with a little vinegar, if it was leaking there may be some mineral deposits. I've been doing this with Eheim cannisters for years, without a drop leaking out.

Ditto, i have over 40 of these filters in my job and 2-3 alway do the same and this works every time.

Last night I tried to lube up the gaskets, and an hour later I had about a quart of water that had already leaked out.

With this additional info, any other suggestions ??

Perhaps you have to much head of water, how high is the surface of the water from the ground?

Or go over kill with the petroleum jelly fill the gap around the gasket and make sure the four corner clips are closeing tightly, these can play up in cracked.
That should stop it.

This may be a silly comment  (as I'm not familiar with this filter) but maybe it's time to replace the gasket???
