Hi,

I have a breeding trio of bristlenoses that i aquired about 2 months ago, i have had 1 spawn off them but have had many, many eggs. On numerous occasions i have found clumps of eggs washed up in the corner of the tank only to watch them go moldy - why isn't the male fertilising them?

masses of bog wood - close to 15 KG i think, bamboo caves and terracota caves. strong water flow from 2 internals, airstone, 10-20% water change every 2-3 days.

temp 79F
ph 7.0
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate always under 20
KH 0-1d

I'm finding it strange because they spawned succesfully just 2 weeks after their arrival.

At first they laid eggs but didnt fertilise them, then the fry came along, then no eggs for about a month, now theres heaps more unfertilised eggs again.

Most people use slate caves for them, the eggs are much more better off in them as they cant get thrown about as much.

i have used them in the past with no success but i bought them off ebay, i'm in the process of making my own at the mo. They have bred in the bamboo caves once before and to my suprise when i was cleaneing the tank the other day i lifted one of the bamboo caves and saw the male with some eggs - fingers crossed.

I use a teracotta plant pot and they love it.

You might also be disturbing them too much. I do a water change every 2-3 wks and my BN breed like crazy, stick a plant pot in the corner and see what happens.
