Hi Everyone,

i have 2 ghost shrimp in my 60 litre tank along with community fish and 2 ACF's. when i first put the shrimp in they would swim about like madmen bashing into the sides of the tank, side to side and bottom to surface. they really would not stop moving this carried on for 4 or 5 days. they've now been in the tank for 2 months and have moved about 1 inch since the first week. they are alive and feeding but just sit on top of each other in the corner by the filter box only moving to swap around.

Are they supposed to act like this, i haven't seen them swim for at least 7 weeks and i must spend 2 hours a day sitting in front of the tank.... sad i know but i'm fasinated. i'm just worried their unhappy.

we have four ghost shrimp after losing three, but i have never heard of this. ours move around mostly at feeding time, (in w/ one fish). the rest of the time they only move if they feel threatened, like if we get too close to their spot in the tank. If they've been doing this for so long and are still alive they should be fine. Usually if they are going to die, they do so in the first month. Are they in w/ anything else? Have you seen any of them molting? That could tell you if they are doing well or not.

EDIT: sorry i had to reread that, they could feel somewhat tormented by the other fish, but other than that im not sure, but it may help, what are ACF's?
HTH.

I believe the ACFs would be African Clawed Frogs. They get large enough to eat many smaller tankmates.

My shrimp are quite active, always roaming around busily cleaning up the tank.I have 3 in my 5g and 7 in my 10g.They are always lurking amongst the ornaments but seldom stay put for long.At feeding time they get right in with everyone else to get their share of the goodies. It's a blast to watch them boldly spar with the fishies over a morsel of food :p

Perhaps the shrimp in question are less active because conditions are not so favorable to them. You could put them in a little tank of their own and see how they respond.

They are definatly alive and feeding just not moving much. One has shed it's skin once, the other hasn't. Water quality is spot on what it should be, temp is 27 degrees. unfortunatly i only have one tank so seperating them isn't an option i'm afraid. I guess i'll just have to keep an eye on them. Thanks for your help. :)
