I posted this in my journal, but didnt get any feedback, so I thought I would try here.

My dad had a tank with tons of lava rock in it, and he took most of it out a year or two back to put live rock in its place.

My mom took the rocks and put them scattered in her rock garden around the pond.

He said that if I soak it for a day or two with a capful of bleach and then soak it for another day with declorinator- I should be ok.

What do you guys think?

edit:= He has also never used copper in the tank before.

DO not bleach Scoria it will retain it for a very long time.

do not boil/roast/microwave it as it has the potential to explode when trapped air pockets expand.

the best thing to do is soak it in old tank water for a week to 10 or so
changing the water every two days.

I have aborted the lava rock batch all together. Dont want to take a chance with something hitching a ride into the tank on one of those.

I bought some feller stone from a local pet store. 6 nice sized pieces for 5 bucks. Rinsed it off real good and put it in the tank.

Can you tell us what Feller Stone is ???- never heard of it
