We currently have 5 clown loaches. I think they're over a year old now. All of them measure around 4-5inches long. Not very big.

I would love to buy some more clowns for the tank, but I'm hesitant. Mainly b/c all that would be available are the really small baby clowns. Would the larger ones pick on the smaller loaches?

OR If we can't get some healthy looking clowns, I would like to add in a different kind of loach. I can't think of what the name is. They're black & white/silver. The info card said they can get to around 8 inches long.
They looked just like young clowns in body shape.

Would these (or any other kind of similiar) loach school together? Or would they mainly stick with their own kind?

Clown Loach have a hirachy so if you introduced new small Clowns then they will be put in there place but there should not be any issues.

Make sure there are plenty of caves and hides and add more than one small Clown loach so they can support each other while the larger established ones are throwing there weight around. It may be the case that the new ones may hide for a while as they settle in but eventually they will end up being one big happy family except for when they squabble which is normal for them.

The other loach you were talking about may well be a yoyo loach also known as a Pakistani Loach or it could be a Dwarf chain loach take a look on google images and find a picture of one and post it we should be able to help you nice.

Take a look in here and see if you can find the fish in here this is part of this forum it is the fish species index and a useful place to go for info and tips on different species http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/forum/43-cyprinids/

As previously stated clowns of all sizes will mix well together, clowns will also mix well with most botia species especially striata, histrionica and kubotai

Thank you everyone for the really helpful info :)

The Pakistani Loaches looks very similiar to the ones I saw. Hoping to go back to the LPS on Thursday. I'll try to remember to see what they're called if they still have some.

And I would probably end up getting 4-5 more small clowns if the LPS ever got any healthy looking ones in. Good to know that they'd all get along with eachother :)
