Large Tanks

I've read some things that once you get to a certain size, it is more advantageous to build your own tank as it costs less to buy custom cut glass/acrylic than it does to buy a premade. Just wondering if anybody had any ideas on about what size this starts to happen. Thanks!!

normally 6' + tanks or if you require a smaller but tall tank as the glass needs to be thicker

its also possible to build a tank from fiber-glass and ply wood if you know what your doing.
keeps the weight and cost right down.
