Looking for either a catfish or pleco for my tank (168g).

The tank has a 3ft squared bottom, smooth gravel substrate and subdued lighting. Tank mates are large Cichlids and a Birchir. I also want to get another Birchir at some point, so please no Plecos who may suck on slime coats!

Ta :)

How about a Panaque nigrolineatus L190, Royal Pleco 13.4" 22C-30C ph 6.5-7.5
Territorial with conspecifics and other similarly sized catfish although otherwise peaceful with smaller fish. This fish can be a fussy feeder and only once it is feeding well should be mixed with large, boisterous fish.

Scobinancistrus sp. (L368)

Thanks, love the Scobinancistrus sp. (L368). I expect they are expensive though? Do you know how big they get? Tried googling.

The site shows an average, it also shows SL <<(basically without tail) size rather than TL (total lengh), you are looking at a potential 17-18 inch fish.

Stunning fish but may be to big overall for the tank??

i keep a common plec with a senegal birchir and i have never seen the plec try to eat the slime coat and when i asked the question about plecs eating the slime coat on here a few months back i had a few members that they had never heard of it and never experienced it in their aquariums.
