Ok So basicly. This is referred to people with HUGE Tanks. With HUGE fish.

Ok. Here goes.

Recently i've thought and seen some Tanks with big fish in there. Witch look Realy Upset and sulk alot.

Then i look at HUGE tanks with small community fish in.

They look Extremely happy.

Eg : Neons Chasing each other around.. Cory's Hiding Etc etc. you know what i mean right?

then with big fish in big tanks on there own look fairly Lonely and grumpy.. As-if to say " How on EARTH did i end up here? "

Not fingure pointing to any-one. Just abit :/ That some people think "Big tanks mean We need big fish Right?"

I Know every-one here on TFF actuly research about big fish etc before buying them.. I Have seen extremely happy big fish in my time. But Extremely grumpy ones aswel.

Yet with huge tanks with small fish in. The fish look ALOT more happy'er?

Does any-one agree with me here? Or Can correct me in anyway?

Well, I keep large tanks, because basically, I like the personality of large fish.

Can't keep large fish in small tanks, so therefore large tanks, large fish.

i have both
a 300l with an oscar and a 450l community... the 450 is the biggest tank ive had,and a while back i needed to swap the oscar tank for another 300,but when i got the 450 i was tempted to put him in there but he was so stressed the first time i moved him that i decided against it... he never ever looks like hes thinking " how did i end up here" he is a grumpy git tho

hes had a rough life and i think he`d be quite happy in the bath as a pose to however he was kept in the past

( and that was nearly and option if i hadnt found him a tank by the friday that i needed to to collect him..couldnt have left him at the shop over the weekend
sad.gif
would have broken my heart)
he splashes about, creates havoc in there.. when i got the 450 a huge plec came with it.. so i put him in with Bo for company.. they get along just fine.. both are healthy and happy

the 450l is stocked with smaller fish ONLY because the tank came with some.. i got the tank intending to convert it to marine..plans changed and i carried on adding fish.. i cant tell if theyre happy or not

i assume they are the water is good, they eat well and are all heathy..so i guess they must be

but id be very happy with lots of big tanks and lots of big oscars

Yep.. i had plans to keep one in a Rio 180.

But then i was corrected here by some kind people

And Shelagh look on the bright side.. You saved him right :good:

i have a large tank with lots of small fish.

my mom reckons it looks odd but i like to watch them play. i'm not a big fan of big fish

I Like both.

in a couple years time im setting up a 6-7 ft tank for my uncle. He REALY wants a big tank with little fish... Bogwood plants etc.

He's mate has a 5 ft Marine tank..

i hav'nt seen it yet. but i Will after new years will upload pictures for you all after that :good:

My largest tank is a 6 foot long one and has my biggest fish in it. I do not do large fish but the 5 inch rainbow cichlids and the pleco live in the big tank. I also have rasboras, cories and a number of other fish in that tank. You could say that I keep the final fish size in mind when deciding which tank to use for each fish. Almost all of my fish are only the size of a large molly or smaller so many tanks that might tempt people with large fish are populated with rather small fish. I have some juvenile mollies in a 55 gallon and endlers in a 45 gallon. I also have red tailed goodeids in a 55 gallon. Small tanks are for things like guppies, limias, Heterandria formosa, golden teddies and similar small fish.

So Oldman i take it you sell the fry later on then?

And it sounds like you dont corss couler do you?

I find having bigger fish much more exciting for me, i find the bigger they are they are usually more predatory and lay in wait type of fish, i also have the smallest fish you can imagine fully grown at just over a inch, but still much prefer my 150us tank with its bigger inhabitants, granted there not all predatory but for the most these are the guys i prefer with a bit of a personality

yeah im like right down the middle, i think both are finr and end up looking great either way. or maybe like a combination? c im trying really hard to get a 55 gal for a chocolate chiclid, some rainbows, and a shoal of sterbai cories and it will be planted and it seems that will be smack in the middle of your question

i like both, though currently i have my 130 gallon a community tank, i love when my neons and cories chase each other all over the place, and plus you can have lots of fish in it.

but i like big fish like oscars because some are smart and you can get attached to them, and they each have very individual personalitys

I much prefer the look of a heavily planted, low stocked or 1-2 species small fish type of tank with possibly a mid sized centrepiece specimen or pair. I think the visual effect and general mood in the tank is far better than one great big fish lurking about. I also dislike tanks crammed with many species. It's far too busy and unnatural for my tastes.

If I had a really big tank of 6 feet+ I'd certainly go for the first option I described.

I'm winding down my 30 gal so I end up with 1-2 species as described above ( tank is already planted ). I currently have a group of gold barbs, my blue gourami and a few odds and ends that my horrid brother was going to flush down the toilet alive! So they will live out their lives with me, and then after they're gone I'll stick with the 1-2 species style.

Also when my female bettas are eventually gone I will be moving Bronson ( male) into a planted 12 gallon long by himself presuming I still have him, if not then I'll get another really nice male, preferably a white one.
