I got some 30" high flexable bamboo fern type fake plants and decided to try one out in Judes coldwater tank and i like it.....

Here is the tank before...

I wasnt happy with the far right hand side, especially as you could see the blue airline, I added the large fern to hide that but it goes up and along the surface of the water and it dapples the light....

I even tried a couple in my tropical.....one either side gives a kind of forrest effect as the curl in from either side......I feel some aquascaping coming on...

All comments welcome.

It looks very nice.

I see you got sand at the bottom of the tank. How do you clean the bottom of the tank? I mean do you use syphon to vacuum the waste at the bottom? I am buying a new tank and thinking of adding sand instead of gravel. So, which sand do you recommend? Also, I was told that sand cannot be used with undergravel filter, so I don't know how I will vacuum the sand since I will get sucked up.

I am just starting a new 44G tank and looking for advice.

Thank you for your time.

p.s. I am attaching i picture of the tank I am buying.

I just use a piece of airline to get the most of it up, it only takes 5 mins and once Ive done a water change and things get stirred up its a quick job just to 'hovver round' sort of thing.

I use play sand which you can get from any garden certre just make sure its rinsed well. As for an under gravel filter I wouldnt know as Ive never used one.

nice mate........that same as ive done plastic bamboo :hey: heres a pic of my sisters tank we did a couple of weeks ago

Cool, you can get some really nice fake plants now. Ive just finished upgrading my tetras tank in my bedroom from a 40ltr to a 100ltr and its all fave plants in that (apart from a few red lilly pad plants) and Ive added a few new fish so I'll post pics later (Im leaving them to settle for a while.)

really nice, have you tried putting the centerpiece fern infront on the center driftwood? Something tells me that it will make your tank look even more nice.

Do you mean in the coldwater one?

Assuming you do it would block too much, the big ferns are 30" long and very dense. I have got loads of them coz I sell them so I can always have a play about I suppose.

Well the large piece of driftwood is distracting and i think that could be eliminated if you cover a little of it up with a plant or two.

I know what you mean, it kinda leans forward but i wanted a piece of the wood to come into the foreground to give it a more natural look and also when the fish are at the front the move alot more because its there.

There is method to my madness you see.

Big Mick, that is argueably (sp) the best goldfish tank I have seen set-up in a long time. It's gorgeous! Great job.

The wood doesn't affect the pH too much? Just curious.
