i need to upgrade to an 80 gallon (US) tank and im not sure about the floor being ok. it should go in the basement, which has a solid concrete slab underneath the carpet, i normally would think that it would just be fine being concrete and part of the foundation (maybe) of the house, but i thought id check with you guys and see if there was something i dont know. is this perfectly fine or do i need to consider reinforcing the floor somehow first? its just that the setup with the aquarium, stand, ect. will probably weigh something like 700 - 800 lbs. that kinda has me worried right now.

I have an 80g that has been set up for a few years now above a basement. No issues yet. All my bigger tanks are in the basement, I don't want to risk a broken tank (or floor).

sounds good to me. i think my biggest problem right now is that i want to set up my 55 gallon and go buy a new 80 gal. i just have to think about how much work that is gona be. iv got dreams right now of those 2 tanks plus a 30 gallon community tank as well as my 5 gallon betta tanks. i actually had a dream the other night about how awsum large aquariums are :fun: im getting so addicted to this hobby i better be careful and not overdo anything upfront  i think for this year i might restrict myself to the 80 gal. and maybe a 30 gal. marine nano. in another year or two i can get more. i dont think i should rush into this all at once.

If you are going marine, I would suggest not starting nano, as they are far harder to maintain and not at all forgiving of mistakes. Trust me, I learned the hard way. Didn't lose the whole tank, but it was a source of constant worry and I had a couple casualties on the start up.

all right, maybe ill turn my 55 gal. into the marine later this year and just set up an 80 gal. right now. though i think if i went in that direction id actually want my 80 gallon to be for spiny eels only, so i might go out and get a 20 or 30 gal. kit tank and make it a community tank with all my other fish (except the betta). ya i like that idea.
