Look like a brown lipped snail.

Best bet is a well ventilated cheap acrylic type aquarium, soil layer with vermiculite, an up turne flowerpot with a hole knocked in the side (pop some sphagnum moss inside it).

Then a few twigs/vrown oak leaves etc. to give you something intersting to watch him on.

He should eat pretty much any vegeatable matter, but particularly romaine lettuce, and over ripe apple etc. (also pansy leaves etc.) provide a small piece of cuttle fish bone.

Thats it! (oh and keep him somewhere cool anf out of direct sunlight, give a quick mist daily)

well, thank you for the info...
there is just one problem.....
i live in the USA and arent these snails native to the uk?
will they die under my care?
do i need a heat lamp?

I think the above care guidelines mentioned will do just fine for basically any type of land snail. Just keep the setup away from direct sunlight and drafty doors and widows in the winter (if live in colder climes in the US). Humidity is important so a mist once a day is essential. other than that, enjoy the snail! (or just put it back where you found it if you are concerned about the care involved).
all the best
cheers

thank you so much for all your help everyone.
ive decided to keep them.
ive named them houdini, gary and ang.
they all have different personalities and ive come to enjoy watching them.
so thank you all once again.

I keep giant African land snails and don't use a heater Apr - Oct. In winter I use heat mats but that's because my place is cold and impossible to heat. If you have good heating and room temp is 20' -24'no need for more heating.
