i have a land hermit crab and he has recently been needing a new shell, i went and got a few...well i put about 5 in there and he can't choose, he goes in one and then switches into another...anyone know why? should i just leave him in wichever he chooses and yank the otherones out?

Leave them all in, some Ecuadorian crabs prefer shells with a wide opening rather than simply larger size, and are known to be very picky, mine wouldnt change even though his was far too small and he couldnt fit in fully. Do you know what type crab you have?

im onht sure what kind he is...could you gimme a link so i could find out??

my setup is a five gallon tank with sand substrate, he has a pot half burried in the sand to hide if he wants to, and i put a pinecone in there for him to burrow next to. I spray him with a water-bottle every day or two

Try to get hydrometer--make sure it stays plenty moist in there (sounds like you're doing a good job, though!). Also make sure that it's warm enough. Another thing that might make your crab happier is a buddy--they need company!
