I know people say that a CUC scavenges for stuff but I'm worried about mine. My tank is over a month old and I've had diatoms only on my heater and periodicaly brown algae spots on my walls that are small and a little bit of hair algae on the back wall. That's it. Should I take out the phosphate remover I'm using now so a bit more algae can grow for my CUC? The tank is right next to a window so it's not like there should be a problem with getting algae but there is. I also use distilled water.

Thanks for any help :good:

Yes I know, but I would rather just let more algae grow because then I know my water won't be polluted?

You're the first member that I've ever seen post about removing your phosphate binder to get more algae. Talk about taking one's finger out of the dam. :shout:

No....feed it.

LOL there's a first for everything then. Guess I'm actually the first for something here. At least I know this phosphate remover works since I'm not using rowaphos. Ok I'll pick up some dried seeweed. Should I add any if I see all the algae gone, I'm a little worried about the mirthax/emerald crab being mean to my snails or shrimp?

Thanks

You can use a clip...same as in FW and try and put it in near the cuke. SH

In my FW tanks, I used to put all of the sinking pellets in one place so the bottom feeders would get to it. But then the platies started eating the food. My solution was to put the food in different spots in the tank. The platies couldn't be everywhere at once so the bottom feeders got their share. Maybe that would keep your emerald crab from bullying the rest of you CUC. If he thinks he has enough food, he won't go bother the other occupants for more.

Remember that your CUC will also eat anything (well alomost) that is lying around the tank

I agree with SH, the last thing you want to do in encourage nuisance algea to grow

Ok thanks, well the thing is my crab hides all day and all the time I have my moonlights on. I haven't seen him for two days now, but I know where he is. :shifty:

That makes sense mr. miagi
